Farmers Feeding Kentucky is our statewide initiative to source fresh, local food from Kentucky farmers and distribute it to food-insecure households through our network of food banks.

Feeding Kentucky currently implements three key programs: Farms to Food Banks, Local Food Purchase Assistance (LFPA), and Kentucky Cheese Cares. These programs connect local farmers with our network of food banks to increase access to fresh, nutritious food across the state.

Our program offerings may grow or shift over time, depending on available funding and evolving community needs.

Why It Matters

Access to fresh, healthy food can dramatically impact community health—yet many Kentuckians struggle to afford it. Meanwhile, farmers often lack markets for excess or imperfect produce. These programs help bridge that gap.
  • 91% of households served by our network report relying on inexpensive, unhealthy food
  • 41% live with diabetes; 65% with high blood pressure
  • Fresh, local food can change lives—and Kentucky farmers are key to making that happen

Program Impact

This map shows the number of farmers we’ve partnered with in each Kentucky county since 2011. Darker shades represent areas with higher participation.
