Quarles reflects on the impacts of 2020 for Kentucky agriculture

Despite the rigors of 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic, the state of Kentucky Agriculture is strong, says Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles.

“No one could have predicted the turbulent and wild year the United States has seen in 2020,” he said. “During this year, the Kentucky Department of Agriculture was able to make progress on key priorities for the agriculture community, while also coming together to fight the coronavirus pandemic.”

Quarles encourages Kentuckians to keep state’s hungry in mind during season of giving

In this season of giving, Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Dr. Ryan Quarles encourages Kentuckians to remember Kentucky food banks and their partners.

“In Kentucky, there are nearly 700,000 Kentuckians, including nearly 200,000 children, who struggle with hunger,” Quarles said in a press release. “That means one in seven adults and one in five children in Kentucky lack access to enough food for a healthy, active lifestyle. If you’re able, now may be the perfect time to think about donating to a local food bank.”

Amid ‘unprecedented’ hunger, advocates urge Congress to boost SNAP benefits in COVID-19 relief

“Congress has been fighting about an extra stimulus package since the summer and meanwhile, children are going hungry, families are worried about losing their homes,” Lisa Davis, senior vice president of the No Kid Hungry Campaign, told ABC News. “If kids continue to go hungry, at this rate, it’s because Congress chose this path.” (more…)
