State lawmakers come together to ‘Pack Bags 4 Bam’
FRANKFORT — A bipartisan group of Kentucky lawmakers joined forces Monday to pack more than 2,000 bags of food for Kentucky children at risk of hunger as a hat tip and encouragement to ailing House Majority Leader John “Bam” Carney.
Lawmakers help distribute food to children facing hunger
FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) – Kentucky lawmakers have pitched in to distribute food to children at risk of going hungry.
Lawmakers from both parties formed assembly lines Monday to put pasta, canned vegetables, pudding cups, juice boxes, and other food into bags.
Feeding Kentucky organized the event. Executive Director Tamara Sandberg says the goal is to distribute 2,100 bags of food to 18 schools or Head Start programs statewide.
Kentucky ‘Farms to Food Banks’ Adds More Varieties and Frozen Produce
Kentucky’s Farms to Food Banks program increased the types of produce purchased from farmers in 2019.
It also began a new project to freeze some items that were sent along to food banks.
