Ky. Residents In Their 50s Have Highest Food Insecurity Rate In U.S.
Kentucky has the highest rate of food insecurity for people in their 50s. That’s according to a new report from nonprofit Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger relief organization.
Study: Nearly 1 in 5 older Kentuckians food insecure
A new study finds Kentucky has the highest rate of older adult food insecurity in the nation.
The report, Hunger Among Adults, released today shows Kentucky’s food insecurity rate among adults age 50-59 was 18.6% while the national rate was 11.3%. The data are from 2017, the most recent year for which data are available.
‘Map the Meal Gap’ Shows 650,000 Kentucky Residents Are Food Insecure
The Map the Meal Gap 2019 report by Feeding America shows that Kentucky has more than 650,000 residents who are food insecure.
A food pantry in Bardstown is helping to close that meal gap for 700 local families who choose their own groceries.
