Farmers needed for Farms to Food Banks program
Feeding Kentucky, formerly known as the Kentucky Association of Food Banks, is calling on Kentucky farmers to participate. The program works to reduce food waste by rescuing cosmetically blemished produce and distributing it to Kentuckians at risk of hunger. It covers a farmer’s cost of picking, packing and transporting produce from the field to a regional food bank in Kentucky, according to a news release.
Kentucky’s older adults lack nutrition, food security
Kentucky has the nation’s highest rate of food insecurity among residents 50 to 59 years old, according to Feeding America’s first-time effort to document hunger in older adults.
Nearly 19 percent of the state’s older adults are food insecure, and another 9 percent are “very low food secure.” The national rates were 11 and 5 percent, respectively.

Kentucky has the highest rate of food insecurity for people in their 50s. That’s according to a new report from nonprofit Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger relief organization.
