KDA issues grant to Kentucky Food Banks

(KFVS) – The Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA) has issued a grant to help several Kentucky food pantries on Monday, April 15.

According to KDA, Commissioner Ryan Quarles announced that 25 food pantries will have additional cold storage space thanks to this grant.

Study: SNAP users down 12% with work requirements

LOUISVILLE– The data is in and the number of people receiving SNAP benefits is down in Kentucky. But health advocates say it isn’t actually good news.

The number of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) recipients is down 12 percent overall, and among what are being called ‘able-bodied adults without dependents’ it’s down 30 percent from January 2018 through September 2018, according to a study from the Urban Institute. This is after the Commonwealth instituted work requirements for SNAP benefits.

2nd Annual Serving Up Solutions Raises $46K

FRANKFORT (3/29/19) – The second annual Serving Up Solutions dinner in February raised $46,235 in ticket sales and sponsorships, Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles announced.

The dinner benefited Feeding Kentucky (formerly the Kentucky Association of Food Banks), Kentucky Hunters for the Hungry, and GleanKY. Proceeds amounted to more than double those of the inaugural dinner in 2018.
