Kentucky families are facing a food crisis, and soon so will area food banks

Letter: Childhood hunger soars to record-level highs
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused childhood hunger to soar to record-level highs. One in 4 children in Kentucky could face hunger this year because of this health and economic crisis.
But hunger is a problem we can actually fix. If Congress temporarily increases SNAP benefits 15%, families in need would receive an additional $25 per person each month. This benefit is a lifeline for those in our state who are facing extreme hardship — unemployment, rising food prices, eviction and hunger — because of this pandemic.
Dare to Care, Anthem Foundation Issue a Hunger Challenge to Kentuckiana
Dare to Care Food Bank and the Anthem Foundation are teaming up to fill a growing gap in volunteers and dollars needed to feed the rising number of people facing food insecurity in Kentuckiana. The Anthem Foundation has issued the Dollars For Doers Challenge to the entire 13-county region by matching every hour volunteered at Dare to Care through February 12 with a $10 donation.
To participate in the Dollars For Doers Challenge, visit Volunteer.DaretoCare.org or call (502) 966-3821 now through Feb. 12, 2021. Anthem Foundation will automatically match every hour volunteered with a $10 donation to Dare to Care.
