Report: Kentucky’s food insecurity rate higher than national average
BEREA, Ky. (WKYT) – A new report shows Kentucky children are particularly vulnerable to food insecurity.
The report by Feeding America was released Wednesday. The group identifies food insecurities across the country in its “Map the Meal Gap 2019” report.
At 14.9%, the report shows Kentucky’s food-insecurity rate is higher than the national rate of 12.5%.
It also shows the food-insecurity rate for Kentucky children is 18%.
Kentucky Legal Community Raises 400,000 Meals for Food Banks
Frankfort, KY- Attorney General Andy Beshear has announced that the Kentucky legal community raised the equivalent of 400,000 meals through donations of funds and volunteer time during the third annual Kentucky Legal Food Frenzy. Lawyers and staff competed outside the courtroom for eight days to raise resources for the Feeding Kentucky food bank network. The competition took place on March 11th – 18th, 2019.
KDA issues grant to Kentucky Food Banks
(KFVS) – The Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA) has issued a grant to help several Kentucky food pantries on Monday, April 15.
According to KDA, Commissioner Ryan Quarles announced that 25 food pantries will have additional cold storage space thanks to this grant.
